A repeat fly-tipper has been fined almost £4,000 following a Redbridge Council prosecution after rubbish was dumped in the car park of a bingo hall.
Martin Stokes, 30, from Birmingham, was caught on CCTV alongside a passenger unloading a yellow van full of waste, including mattresses, a fridge-freezer and glass panels, before driving off.
Bingo hall staff alerted the council after spotting the mess, and enforcement officers traced the vehicle from the footage.
Stokes, previously fined over £2,000 for fly-tipping in Redbridge, failed to identify the driver and ignored a £1,000 penalty notice, leading to court action.
He didn't attend his June trial and was found guilty in his absence, receiving fines and costs totalling £3,905.
Redbridge Cabinet Member for Enforcement, Community Safety and Cohesion, Cllr Sunny Brar, warned fly-tipping ‘will not be tolerated’ in the borough.
‘We will use the full force of the law to track down and prosecute offenders, ensuring residents’ money is invested in our communities rather than wasted on cleaning up illegal dumping,’ he added.
