Film festival will put Birmingham on road to international stardom

The film industry is set to descend on Birmingham, following the city council’s decision to back a digital film festival.
A new Digital Film and Media Event, set for autumn next year, will celebrate moving image in the digital age, with futuristic film screenings, interactive games and new technologies. It will also offer the media industry high-level conferences and debates.
Leading up to the event will be a series of projects across the region linking schools, universities and communities to the latest in digital media.
The event will be in partnership with Screen WM, Advantage West Midlands, Arts Council WM, Marketing Birmingham and Business Link WM. Around the globe, film events, such as the Sundance festival in the US, have become significant generators of revenue to their region.
City Council leader, Mike Whitby, said: ‘This is a fantastic way to showcase our city to global audiences, while giving our citizens a chance to experience the wonders of new technology.’
