The Knowsley Music Festival will kick off today to celebrate the Merseyside borough’s 50th anniversary.
Knowsley Council said the two-week event featured ‘a roster of iconic artists from the borough and beyond’.
It launches tonight with a performance by Liverpool’s Pete Wylie and the Mighty Wah! at Shakespeare North Playhouse.
There will be gigs next week by Kirkby songwriting duo China Crisis, performing in the ‘spectacular’ surroundings of St Chad’s Church, and rock band Deaf School at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park.
As well as the main event, the Knowsley Fringe Music Festival will offer local artists the opportunity to host music events at locations across the borough.
Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods, Shelley Powell, said: ‘This year’s music festival promises to be a really special one.
‘We’ve worked hard to put together a line-up of fantastic artists in our borough’s best and brightest venues to really celebrate our 50th year.’
