We are facing a ‘momentous time’ for council finance chiefs, communities secretary, Eric Pickles, told the CIPFA annual conference in Birmingham last week.
‘Like [code breaker] Alan Turing the day he took the call from Bletchley Park…. public finance professionals are facing a moment which calls on all their skills and expertise,’ he said.
But didn’t the Alan Turing story end up in persecution, jail and ultimately, a suspected suicide? Things are not looking good for CIPFA members….
