Mayors are pressing for devolved powers currently reserved for their trailblazer counterparts in ongoing talks with the Government.

Skills and transport powers are among the top demands in devolution negotiations for combined authorities outside of the existing trailblazers in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.

North of Tyne Mayor, Jamie Driscoll, told The MJ a new ‘core offer’ was being sought by the M10 group of metro mayors in the form of a new trailblazer deal.

He added: ‘Every mayoral combined authority agrees we need consolidated funding and greater devolution of adult skills.

‘I think we’re all pretty much in agreement about greater devolution of transport powers – specifics like electrical car charging infrastructure.’
