Stratford-on-Avon District Council has adopted the two unitary authority model as its preferred option for local government reorganisation.
Warwickshire is currently covered by one county council and five smaller district and borough councils.
The two-authority option would see one authority covering North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, and Rugby in the north, and a second covering Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick in the south.
Warwickshire County Council has made the case for a single unitary authority.
‘By endorsing the two unitary model as our preferred option, we are putting forward a structure that we believe best reflects the distinct needs of our communities in South Warwickshire,’ said Cllr Susan Juned, leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
‘This model offers the opportunity for more responsive, efficient, and locally accountable services.’
