Dash off those Eric facts

Much has been written in the last 12 months about the current communities secretary – some of it good, some of it less so – but we at MJ Towers particularly enjoyed a recent entry on the website 24dash.com entitled, ‘10 things you need to know about Eric Pickles’.

The somewhat tongue-in-cheek article shed light on some of the lesser-known aspects of the Essex MP’s curriculum vitae, including his spell as a local radio disc jockey and the fact that he grew up in a Labour-voting household.

It also mentioned the time that Ladbrokes offered bets on whether Mr Pickles could resist the allure of a curry while in Birmingham at the Conservative Party conference.

Readers had to guess which of the 10 facts was a porkie pie and which were, in fact, correct.

What Mr Pickles himself made of such tomfoolery is anyone’s guess.

But Eric, if you’re reading this, just remember that old saying – don’t look back in Ongar…
