Deloitte

Local authorities lie at the very heart if the UK Public Sector and are a key component of the wider UK economy. Councils are the central element in the provision of public sector services to communities. Their wider activities, often and increasing working in partnership with other public, private and voluntary bodies, are critical to the health of local and regional economies. Local authorities have always had this pivotal role, but recent developments such as “new localism” and “place shaping” significantly re-enforce the strategic importance of local authorities in the UK public sector transformation agenda.

That strategic importance is reflected in the way in which Deloitte provides services to local authorities and RDAs. Our Local and Regional Government (L&RG) Practice  is a key component of our Public Sector Group and in turn, that Sector is a central element of the business strategy for the whole Firm. Over a period of 20 years, Deloitte have developed, maintained and continue to build a specialist, dedicated team to serve local and regional government. What this means for our clients is that we fully understand the very specific requirements in that sector, across the full spectrum of activity, from strategic planning and regeneration, to service delivery and community leadership. By having worked with 100s of Councils and RDAs on all manner of projects involving both strategy and execution, we are uniquely placed to provide solutions which are tailored to specific needs, but which are also informed by our wide experience and expertise of what works in other industries and businesses

We are committed to Local and Regional Government and are determined to work in close collaboration with our clients to make telling contributions to the change agenda. To quote but one of our local authority clients:

"We work closely with Deloitte and both David and they are very valued advisors for whom we have the highest regard"

With the White Paper and the Local Government Bill published and with Lyons due to report “at or around the time of the Budget” all the leading commentators agree that local authorities are facing a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a new future for local government. At an NLGN Conference on the 17th January 2007, Phil Woolas, Minister for Local Government and Community Cohesion stated that “This year is a landmark year for local government”.

The change agenda is significant and the challenges considerable, but the opportunity is excellent if, in the words of the LGA local authorities can “raise their game”. Deloitte has a dedicated, specialist team which can help in all the following areas:

  • Efficiency and Transformation
  • Re-structuring and Organisation Review
  • Partnership Working
  • Capacity building and service improvement
  • Performance Management
  • Commissioning, Procurement and Supply Chain management
  • PPP, PFI and BSF Procurement and Negotiation
  • Specialist tax and Accounting Advice
  • Audit and Risk Management
  • Governance and Leadership
  • Effective Deployment of ICT

Whatever issues you face in your local authority or RDA and whatever support you may require, al we ask is that you ask Deloitte.
