Deal reached after mayor launched legal case against own council

Newham LBC has struck a £36,000 deal with its directly-elected executive mayor Rokhsana Fiaz after reaching an out-of-court settlement over race and sex discrimination claims.

Mayor Fiaz had launched an employment tribunal claim against her own council, criticising her treatment by some councillors at a meeting in 2022.
