The ID scanners by technology leader DESKO are currently the only ones on the market with flexibly adjustable image resolution. DESKO thus brings forensic expertise from the laboratory to the desktop.
DESKO, a company based in Bayreuth, Germany, is establishing itself at the forefront of technology in the world of ID verification. The new tabletop devices not only deliver forensic image resolution like in the laboratory. Users can also adapt the resolution to their specific application, so that one device can be used to perform a wide range of different work processes in the capture and verification of ID documents. This product feature is currently unique on the market.
When an ID document is verified by a scanner, as it is the case in authorities or all fields of KYC applications, the quality of the created images is crucial. The higher the resolution, the better smallest security features become visible. This allows immediate conclusions on the authenticity of a document and makes it easier to identify forgeries and manipulations. The higher the requirements for checking a document, the higher the resolution must be.
Scanners with flexibly adjustable image resolution
The ID scanner DESKO ID-1 GO® delivers precise images if ID cards in credit card format. With a resolution of up to 1,300 dpi it exceeds the image resolution of commercially available comparison devices by twice. This enables zoom views that make even the smallest security features on the ID cards or passports visible and allows immediate conclusions to be drawn about the authenticity of the document. This is made possible by the intelligent optics included in the devices. It incorporates the know-how and engineering expertise gained from more than 30 years of experience.
Nevertheless, a resolution of 1,300 dpi is not always necessary. If a lower resolution is enough – the official requirements of the law enforcement agencies demand only 600 dpi – the image quality of the device can be flexibly adjusted according to the needs and fields of application of the users. Images with lower resolution require less storage and can more easily be archived and edited. This user-oriented flexibility is also provided by the new generation of DESKO PENTA scanners. The PENTA 4X continues the success story of the DESKO bestseller with an adjustable image resolution of up to 900 dpi.
DESKO will present these and other innovations to trade visitors at Identity Week in London on June 28 and 29. Identity Week is one of the world's most important specialized trade fairs in the field of identity management.
Background knowledge: resolution defined as pixel density of an image file
Image quality is determined by the level of resolution. Speaking of resolution with regard to images generated by cameras or scanners, we usually mean the pixel density of the image. This is measured in the unit ppi ("pixels per inch") or dpi ("dots per inch"). As a rule of thumb, the more pixels on a specified distance, the higher the resolution and the more object details become visible.
The precision and resolution of the used scanners play an important role, especially for checks with a sovereign background – for example, identity verification by state authorities.
