Planning approval has been granted for a major redevelopment of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre (CPNSC), one of the UK's most historic sporting venues.

The scheme will modernise the venue, first opened in 1964, while preserving its heritage and historic features, according to the London Borough of Bromley.

Plans include the return of the 50m pool and diving pool to the aquatics hall, a doubled-capacity gym, an indoor 100m track, a climbing centre, outdoor Padel courts, five-a-side pitches, and a free public running track and outdoor gym.

Accessibility upgrades include a new step-free route linking the Penge and Crystal Palace sides of the park, plus the stadium's first-ever accessible seating.

Sustainability is central to the project, the council says, targeting a 98% cut in carbon emissions through fabric-first upgrades, solar panels, and air source heat pumps.

The project is being led by Beyond the Box CIC and delivered with Morgan Sindall.
