Community housing in Birmingham was given a fresh new look over winter - despite challenging weather conditions.

Twelve homes in the Smith’s Wood area of the city had been identified for redecoration work by the Family Optima Community Association.

But the falling temperature meant the plan to repaint the external elevations to each property required a special solution.

The specification services team at Crown Paints selected Sandtex Trade 365 All-Weather Masonry Paint – a product that has been used on the homes in the past and one which is able to cope with cold conditions.

Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint’s high performance Pliolite® Resin formulation is designed to combat difficult weather conditions, as it can be applied in temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius, and is also rain resistant in 20 minutes.

As a result, specifiers can extend their window of opportunity to complete external decorating projects beyond the traditional exterior decorating season.

The application was carried out by Novus Property Solutions.

Kam Cachal, Building Surveyor for Family Optima Community Association, said: “We wanted to give the properties a makeover, but feared weather at the end of the year would be an issue.

“But Crown Paints, who are our preferred paint supplier, came up with the perfect solution.

“We’re very pleased with the project and have received very positive feedback from residents.”

Colin Carpenter, Specification Sales Manager at Crown Paints, said: “The redecoration work was due to take place towards the end of the year, so we needed a solution that would cope with the cold.

“Sandtex Trade 365 All-Weather Masonry Paint’s unique qualities made it the ideal choice.

“The properties feature a previously-coloured render and we’ve used the same product there in the past so we knew it would be right for the job.

“We’ve carried out various projects with Optima over the years, so this project continued a long-standing relationship.”

The works also included the use of Sandtex Trade Flexigloss X-Tra on the exterior doors of the properties.
