Coventry City Council has received almost £250,000 in additional Government funding, bringing total investment in youth education programmes to over £1m.
The funding will target the city’s most disadvantaged 19-24-year-olds, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), providing life-changing skills training.
The money will expand the Adult Education Service team and develop programmes focused on numeracy, literacy, English language, digital skills, and health and wellbeing.
Flexible study programmes, supported internships, and essential skills development will create clear pathways into employment, apprenticeships, or further education, working alongside initiatives such as the Coventry Job Shop, Connect to Work, and Youth Trailblazer.
Cllr Dr Kindy Sandhu, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: ‘We know many of our young residents face significant barriers to employment and education, particularly those from our most deprived communities.
‘This funding will allow us to expand our reach and provide the flexible, employment-focused programmes that can truly change lives and break the cycle of disadvantage.’
