A national body made up of organisations working together to raise the standard of communications in the public sector has warned councils against banning TikTok.
The new North Yorkshire Council has already banned the installation of the social media app on work devices over security concerns and ‘strongly discouraged’ staff from installing it on any personal devices that are also used for work purposes.
Perth & Kinross Council recently closed its short-lived TikTok account after it concluded that the performance of its content on the channel ‘did not outweigh the security concerns’ while Portsmouth City Council, which has used TikTok as part of its communications activity to share information and raise awareness of services with hard-to-engage younger residents, has now restricted access to the platform on work devices as it reviews its policies.
