Councillors in York will discuss whether to license Uber to operate in the city after refusing to renew the firm’s licence six years ago.
City of York Council denied the firm’s request for a private hire operator’s licence in December 2017 because of a ‘significant’ data breach and increasing complaints about Uber drivers in the region.
That year, 155 of the 296 complaints about taxis related to Uber drivers and vehicles.
Despite the ban, Uber drivers from other areas have been able to operate legally in the city.
In March, the ride-hailing firm submitted a new licence application, which will be discussed at a council meeting on Tuesday.
The council has decided that, until its licensing policy is reviewed, private hire licences can only be issued for up to a year.
