West Oxfordshire District Council is partnering with Crowdfunder to launch a new community crowdfunding platform this autumn, replacing its existing Westhive programme.

The platform will let grassroots and community-led groups raise funds without project hosting fees, down from the previous 7.5%, meaning more raised money goes directly to projects.

Groups will also gain access to Crowdfunder's fundraising tools and nationwide supporter network, plus a share of £120,000 in annual council funding, assessed against community benefit, local need and value for money.

The move follows Westhive's success since 2023, which backed 54 projects, attracted 1,886 backers and secured over £1.19m in pledges.

West Oxfordshire joins more than 40 local authorities working with Crowdfunder Connect, including Cornwall, Fife, Norfolk and Salford councils.

What they said

Cllr Sandra Coleman, Executive Member for Stronger, Healthy Communities, said: ‘Crowdfunding has shown what local communities can achieve when they are given the support to turn ideas into reality.’ She added: ‘By moving to Crowdfunder, there will be no project hosting costs, making it easier for community groups to launch projects, raise support and bring ideas to life.’

Dawn Bebe, founder and joint-CEO of Crowdfunder, said: ‘Fifty-four projects and over £1.19m in pledges is proof that people know best what their neighbourhoods need, they just need the right support to make it happen.’
