The leader of Nottingham City Council has criticised a local arena’s decision to allow Marilyn Manson to perform due to allegations of sexual assault against the singer.
Cllr Neghat Khan said there was ‘no place in our society for misogynistic behaviour’, adding the council was working to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Manson – whose real name is Brian Warner – has been accused of multiple cases of sexual assault, grooming and domestic violence. He denies the allegations.
Cllr Khan said she had alerted the operators of Motorpoint Arena of her concerns but added that ultimately the council had no input into the programming of acts.
‘I don’t believe this individual reflects our values and the work we are doing in Nottingham which targets negative behaviours,’ the council leader said.
‘I have written to the Home Secretary to seek a review of the suitability of the individual from entering the country, given the seriousness of the allegations made.’
