Brighton & Hove Council has been urged by the local MP to use its influence to cancel an upcoming gig by Marilyn Manson due to allegations of sexual assault by the singer.
Siân Berry, the Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion, wrote to the local authority expressing concerns that hosting Manson – whose real name is Brian Warner – is against ‘the city’s well-renowned values’.
She also warned there were ‘clear safeguarding risks to attendees’ and said the council should use its influence as the owner of the Brighton Centre to cancel the performance.
Warner, who has been accused of multiple allegations of sexual assault, grooming and domestic violence, denies the allegations and reportedly says they are ‘probably false’.
The council has been contacted for comment.
