Central Bedfordshire Council is launching a grant scheme to help local charities and voluntary groups which support people in poverty.

Grants up to £10,000 will be available out of a total £120,000 which can be used towards increased running costs for the next year.

The one-off grant can be used to fund increases in costs for staff, energy, rent, food and drink, increased transport and other running costs that have risen significantly.

The Voluntary Services Grant is the latest in the range of grant schemes run by Central Bedfordshire Council aimed at non-profit groups.

Tracey Stock, the council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and communities, said: ‘I hope that groups and organisations throughout Central Bedfordshire who meet the criteria will apply for a grant to offset some of the additional financial pressures that they are experiencing, and enable them to continue with their good work.’
