Council installs CCTV after library sex incident

Isle of Wight Council has been forced to upgrade security measures at a local library after a couple were caught having sex among the bookshelves.

The council will be installing CCTV at the library in an attempt to discourage such behaviour which, according to a spokesperson, was not an isolated incident.

The new cameras cost £3,000 and were funded by a member of the public.

A council spokesperson said: ‘Following complaints from members of the public about instances of inappropriate behaviour, we have installed eight new cameras in Newport's Lord Louis Library at a cost of just under £3,000, which we were able to fund through a recent donation by a member of the public, to help improve security.

‘We hope this will act as an effective deterrent.’
