Argyll and Bute councillors have decided to drop plans for a Gaelic language and culture school following a close-run public consultation.
The 10-week consultation received 673 responses, with 45% of participants supporting the idea of a Gaelic-only school, while 55% were against it. Seven of the responses were in Gaelic.
The council today decided not to pursue the idea due to the consultation response coupled with budgetary constraints.
‘Gaelic has played an important role in shaping Argyll and Bute,’ said Cllr Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education.
‘While we remain committed about promoting the language, current circumstances and public feedback don’t allow us to take forward an all-Gaelic School just now.'
