Developers have successfully appealed to the Government after Coventry’s planning committee rejected plans to build 690 homes.
Complex Development Projects had proposed the development of a residential site on a former gas works close to Coventry city centre.
The site had been allocated for housing in Coventry City Council’s local plan and officers recommended that permission should be granted, but councillors disagreed, citing concerns including the impact on the area’s appearance and on existing residents, and developers’ approach to affordable housing.
Planning inspector Paul Griffiths found the scheme to be of a ‘very high standard of design’ and said its affordable housing proposals complied with local plan policy.
Full permission was given for 212 homes and outline permission was given for the remainder.
A council spokesperson said: ‘Planning committee had multiple concerns with this planning application and the council defended this decision in the interests of local democratic processes.’
