Tameside Council has declared a ‘major incident’ after a tornado struck Stalybridge in Greater Manchester last week.
Categorised as a 'T5', the tornado had wind speeds ranging from 137mph to 160mph and is believed to be the strongest to hit the UK in 17 years.
The council has confirmed that 50 properties are in the process of being issued with dangerous building act notices.
A council spokesperson said on Friday: ‘We know this is a difficult time for the affected residents and their families causing huge upheaval, especially at this time of year, and we are working as quickly as possible to now issue notices.’
