The leader of Edinburgh City Council has reached out to Oasis after the band’s singer Liam Gallagher attacked the local authority for allegedly mocking their fans.

While on stage, Gallagher called the council ‘a bunch of snakes’ among other insults for reportedly labelling the band’s fans ‘middle-aged men’ who would be ‘rowdy’ and ‘intoxicated’.

Council Leader Jane Meagher said Gallagher had ‘every right to be annoyed by what he read’ but added that ‘at no point did council officers use any of the language quoted.’

She continued: ‘Our staff – many of whom are Oasis fans themselves – worked day and night to help make the concerts the success that they were, and, judging by the feedback I’ve received, has been greatly appreciated by concert-goers and residents.’
