North Northamptonshire Council has apologised after confusion over the location of a Weetabix factory led to the planning department consulting the wrong street.
The error was flagged after work had already begun on a 60ft warehouse near Hooke Close, Corby, half a mile from the road that had been consulted by the planning department.
Local councillor Mark Pengelly said his constituents are ‘furious’ and some residents have even threatened legal action.
Cllr Jason Smithers, leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said he understood the frustration and apologised for the error.
‘We have investigated the cause of the error, which occurred through the incorrect identification of one of two Weetabix factory sites that are both located on Earlstrees Road and have introduced additional workflow processes to minimise the risk of this happening again in the future,’ he said.
He also confirmed that the error had not impacted the lawfulness of the planning permission.
‘We can confirm that the permission remains lawful as a notice was placed at the site and a press advert was published – which fulfils the statutory part of the process.’
