England’s eight ‘core cities’ can make their case for extra powers from central government under new clauses in the Localism Bill agreed this week.
The clauses – approved by cities minister Greg Clark and the Core Cities Group - could help to drive economic growth by empowering local leaders, in addition to local enterprise partnerships (LEPs), to make a wider range of investment decisions.
The cities involved include Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.
