Coastal towns share £1.7m for storm repairs

Porthleven Harbour in Cornwall has been given more than £434,000 as part of £1.7m of funding to help coastal communities hit by last winter’s storms.

It is among 21 areas receiving financial help from the Government to carry our repairs with others including harbours at Torquay, Ryde and Southwold.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: ‘Our small ports are vital to the livelihoods of the communities they serve and are the lifeblood of the local economy.

‘The government has already provided significant funding to reverse the damage caused by an exceptionally wet and windy winter. I want to see this additional money help the recovery in these coastal towns.’
