Regional transport authority, Centro, has launched a quality partnership scheme (QPS), which will span more than one-quarter of Birmingham’s bus routes.
The agreement between bus operators and the authority comes as Birmingham City Council invests around £15m in on-street infrastructure improvements.
This includes better enforcement of bus-priority facilities, bus stop upgrades including real-time information, and better parking and loading controls.
The QPS will set out a standard of services in a range of areas covering customer service, reliability and vehicle standards.
Cllr Jon Hunt, Centro lead member for buses, said: ‘The importance of this agreement cannot be understated. It is a first for Birmingham, which will help streamline city centre stops while improvingquality for passengers.
‘Birmingham is part of the biggest urban area outside London and its people need and deserve a high-standard, reliable public transport system. This QPS will help deliver those standards.’
