City leaders have called for a ‘comprehensive strategy’ to tackle disadvantages in coastal communities.

A new report by Key Cities, a national cross-party network representing 25 urban centres across the UK, found coastal communities are disadvantaged compared to their inland counterparts in educational attainment, health outcomes and poverty.

According to the study, coastal areas are faced with inadequate infrastructure, underfunded schools, and are at risk of flooding and coastal erosion.

It called for a focus on fostering economic resilience, social equity, and environmental stewardship in coastal areas.
