A group of cities today demanded new devolved powers and investment to help the UK become a science and innovation ‘superpower’.

The Fast Growth Cities (FGC) group, which includes Oxford, Cambridge and Norwich, said a fresh round of devolution deals combined with targeted investment could help its six council areas treble their current £42bn contribution to the UK economy.

But the group warned that ‘substantial physical infrastructure constraints’ currently limited local growth.
