A council chief executive who has been under investigation for more than a year has resigned.
Cheshire East Council’s chief executive, Mike Suarez, was suspended in April last year with full pay.
His resignation comes in advance of a closed meeting of the council’s Investigation and Disciplinary Committee (IDC) scheduled for tomorrow.
The council’s chief operating officer Peter Bates was also suspended and, in April 2018, the councillor investigating alleged misconduct was asked to ‘step down’.
The former chief legal officer Bill Norman has also been suspended, but he resigned last December.
‘The council’s chief executive, Mike Suarez, has tendered his resignation with immediate effect,’ a council spokesperson confirmed.
‘Mr Suarez’s resignation has been accepted.’
