New Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is on a mission to convince the Government to strike further devolution deals across the north of England.
The former health secretary, who swept to an overwhelming victory last week, told The MJ he was keen to ‘build the case’ for powers to be handed to West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire in order to bolster the lobbying and investment power of the north.
In a wide-ranging interview, which will be published in next week’s issue, Mr Burnham said: ‘The sooner they get a deal the better.
