A fire at a Blackpool care home was declared a major incident by emergency services.

The fire at Waterside Care Home took place yesterday evening, with emergency services being called to the scene and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) deeming it a major incident.

In a social media statement, NWAS confirmed that it had treated 21 people at the scene, while two residents had been taken in an ambulance to Blackpool Victoria hospital.

The fire saw seven ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Teams, three officers, an advanced paramedic, and a doctor dispatched by NWAS, which had been working alongside Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Lancashire Police to manage the incident.

Seventeen residents were evacuated from the home, with a local pub providing shelter and Langdales Care Home delivering emergency accommodation for those affected.

According to the statement, the major incident had been stood down later that evening.

‘We would like to thank all the emergency services involved in responding to this incident’, it reads, as well as wishing those in hospital a speedy recovery.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Council said: ‘Our Adult Social Care teams are working closely with Waterside Care Home to ensure all residents are safely housed and continue to have their care needs met.’

They added that the council is ‘grateful to the [care home] provider for their support stepping up and supporting residents’ and confirmed that the local authority is working alongside families to find ‘suitable arrangements elsewhere’.
