Birmingham unveils plans for Longbridge

Birmingham City Council has unveiled plans to create 10,000 new jobs and 1,400 new homes in the Longbridge area.
Council leader, Mike Whitby, launched the Longbridge area action plan last week, which set out a 15-year vision for the former industrial area, which was home to the MG Rover plant.
The plan will transform the area with a new shopping centre, homes and an improved public transport system.
Longbridge will also become home to Bournville College, three new parks, and a park-and-ride scheme.
The plans go before a full meeting of Birmingham City Council this week.
‘By developing not just homes, but wider communities around them, Longbridge will be at the forefront of the Midlands’ drive to not only meet the Government’s housing growth targets, but far exceed them,’ said Cllr Whitby. And Worcestershire CC leader, George Lord, added: ‘Longbridge is not only the biggest regeneration project in the Midlands, but one of the most important. The eyes of our residents and the nation will be on us, so we are determined to succeed.’
