Birmingham City Council has met this morning (Friday 23 May) to look into the circumstances behind the death of seven-year-old Khyra Ishaq.
The Safegaurding Children Board, who look at every child death in the area are expected to report later today.
Several reports have said the girl died of starvation.
A council spokesman said: 'Birmingham City Council was granted an emergency protection order for the five siblings of Khyra as soon as we were made aware of her death. The care and welfare of the siblings remains our priority and the children have now been placed in foster care.'
'This death is now the subject of a police inquiry and Birmingham City Council are fully supporting their investigation. We are therefore unable to make any further comment.'
The council had been accused of taking a 'head in the sand approach by Khalid Mahmood, MP for Birmingham Perry Barr who said more needed to be done.
He also said the council had 'battened down the hatches' with some officers told not to speak on the matter.
'Various councillors and officers have been told not to speak. I am appalled at this sort of diktat,' he said.
