Birmingham pledges to turnaround 'inadequate' children's services

The new chair of Birmingham City Council’s children’s trust has insisted that the new model will deliver ‘accelerated’ change as inspectors highlighted continued failings within the authority.

Andrew Christie's appointment as chair of the trust coincided with the publication of a new Ofsted re-inspection, which found that ‘serious and widespread failings’ had not been tackled effectively.

Ofsted warned that the council was ‘failing to ensure that all children are kept safe and protected’.

However, the watchdog noted that some progress had been made, and that senior leaders and politicians had ‘worked hard, invested considerable resources and reconfigured services’ to ensure they were focused on improvement.
