A £126.4m contract to turn a section of Birmingham’s M6 into a managed motorway has been awarded to Carillion by the Highways Agency.
The scheme will cut congestion, and improve journey times and safety through variable, mandatory speed limits, and will open an extra traffic lane on the hard shoulder between junctions five and eight. Advanced works are due to start from the end of the month, with main work scheduled between April and June 2012.
