Birmingham fights mayor plan The Government has urged ~Birmingham City Council~ to consider an elected mayor in order to receive extra funding and control over city issues. However, councillors have already rejected the idea. Council leader Mike Whitby said: ‘Whitehall needs to stop tinkering around with headline-grabbing governance arrangements and look more closely at giving us the freedom to deliver what local people want.’
