Birmingham approves £183m social housing investment

Birmingham City Council has agreed a £183m investment package to improve its social housing stock.

The council, which owns 62,616 homes, said the money would help improve the condition of its properties and fund adaptions, clearance and redevelopment costs.

The council’s cabinet member for housing and homes, Cllr Peter Griffiths, said: ‘The average age of our properties is approaching 70 years so investing in our stock is essential in order to safeguard its condition.

‘The programme for 2017/18 to 2019/20 forms part of a continued programme of investment and will deliver new kitchens and bathrooms, central heating systems, doors, windows, roofs and fire protections works to around 20,000 properties.’
