Birmingham announces active travel plans

Birmingham City Council has unveiled a major initiative to boost active travel in the city.

The council’s cabinet member for transport, Tim Huxtable, joined Sustrans regional director Yvonne Gillian to launch the £6.5m cycling and walking project last week.

‘Funds will be used for a variety of initiatives to promote the new improvements and encourage people to take up more cycling and walking,’ the council said in a statement.

Improvements will be made to cycling and walking routes and signage and safety provisions will be bolstered. The project will also introduce 30km of cycle and pedestrian routes.
