Barking and Dagenham Council leader Darren Rodwell has been removed from the list of candidates being considered by the Labour Party for the general election.

The move follows reports that Cllr Rodwell claimed in 2022 to have used official systems to find the address of a person who had threatened him online.

The council leader also reportedly told police that he intended on confronting the person in question and they should not intervene if they received a call.

Separately, the Independent has reported that Cllr Rodwell has been accused of sexual harassment.

He denied the accusation, telling the paper: ‘I utterly refute what is being said, specifically: I have not engaged in sexual harassment of any kind.’
