Ashfield District Council has agreed to purchase land in Kirkby-in-Ashfield as part of the £14m North Kirkby Gateway scheme.

The scheme aims to deliver new homes and commercial units in the Pond Hole area.

John Bennett, executive director of Place, said the land acquisition on Ellis Street was one of 16 transformational projects being funded by the £62.6m Towns Deal.

‘The North Kirkby Gateway project will improve the attractiveness and perceptions of the area, whilst creating more accommodation in the town centre leading to greater local spending and sustainability for local businesses,’ he said.

‘The project will also open up wider development opportunities and further long-term investment. Ashfield District Council is on a mission to change how people view the district, we want people who live, visit, and work here to be proud of Ashfield.’
