Archial Group shortlisted for £300m Glasgow project

The Archial Group has been shortlisted as one of five architectural practices bidding for the £300 million New Campus Glasgow project.

New Campus Glasgow is an ambitious plan to develop a world-class learning facility, led by Glasgow's four city centre colleges; Central, Metropolitan, Stow and Nautical Studies.

If successful, the Archial Group's Scottish division and their London-based Alsop practice will jointly deliver the New Campus Glasgow project, which will be home to 50,000 students and 2,000 staff and will play a leading role in driving positive learning in Scotland.

Christopher Littlemore, Chief Executive at Archial Group, said, "I am confident that we can deliver a cutting-edge campus through our combined experience in the education sector, the international skills of Will Alsop and our strong regional presence in Scotland."

The New Campus Glasgow project will see the integration of four colleges across two sites in the city. The successful architectural firm will begin work in June 2009, whilst the construction work will continue over the next six years.

This is the second recent education-sector announcement for the Archial Group. Last week the group's midlands offices together with Will Alsop's studio were selected as preferred bidder by Birmingham City Council to deliver the Government's biggest Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative to date. The £2.4 billion programme will see 89 Birmingham secondary and special needs schools either refurbished or redeveloped by 2024.

Other architectural practices shortlisted for the New Campus Glasgow project include; Atkins, BDP, Hopkins, and RMJM.
