Local authorities and other public sector bodies are set to benefit from a new £2.5bn framework designed to modernise digital infrastructure and drive innovation across government services.

Launched by NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), the Digital Workplace Solutions 2 framework gives councils and NHS organisations fast, compliant access to essential IT systems — from servers and networks to software and end-user devices.

The framework aims to tackle legacy systems that restrict innovation and efficiency in local government, enabling smoother procurement and more secure, interoperable services.

David Holbrook, Senior Category Manager at NHS SBS, said: ‘As we move into an era dominated by AI and Internet of Things (IoT), legacy systems simply don’t have the processing power or data handling capabilities to support them. Unsupported, infrastructure doesn’t just hinder transformation, it introduces significant security risks.’
