Zeta Specialist Lighting

As part of a programme of works that will see Lambeth Council convert its street lighting stock from SON-T to LED, Bouygues Energies & Services selected Zeta Specialist Lighting’s SmartScape Heritage LED Conversion solution to retro-fit 645 heritage lanterns across the Borough.

The installation of energy-efficient, carbon saving LED lighting is integral to the London Borough of Lambeth’s commitment to be a more sustainable borough. Converting to LED street lighting will reduce C02 emissions and deliver significant energy savings.

For Lambeth Council, retaining heritage-style lamps within conservation areas was a key requirement of the LED upgrade initiative which is why Bouygues opted for Zeta’s SmartScape Heritage, which enabled it to retro-fit rather than replace the whole lanterns.

Zeta’s intelligent design means that the integrated engine can be engineered to fit into a vast range of different heritage lantern shapes and sizes. Zeta’s bespoke solution included three different styles, each of which came in a number of variants and shapes, meaning the legacy lanterns still looked the same.

SmartScape Heritage incorporates cutting edge LED technology which offers significant cost savings. The 40W LED retro-fit units replaced a mix of 70W and 100W lamps, delivering up to a 60 per cent reduction in energy consumption.

Zeta’s SmartScape Heritage is IP65 rated, boasts a number of beam angle options to suit various applications and uniquely can also be configured so that it will continue to run for a few hours during a power cut.

Retro-fitting 645 heritage lanterns across the Borough took around six weeks and was done on a street-by-street basis.

Why age alone shouldn’t define local government leadership

Age should never define leadership in local government, says Graeme McDonald, Managing Director of Solace. Instead, councils should invest in inclusive, skills-based development for officers and councillors to deliver effective public services.
