A growing number of council chiefs are reporting abuse and inappropriate behaviour by councillors to their trade union, with women bearing the brunt.

Tracey Lee, chair of the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives (ALACE), said the union was aware of some ‘really horrendous cases' of abuse that had real impact on those concerned.
