Councils in Scotland have been urged by local government watchdog the Accounts Commission to improve staff support amid a raft of challenges impacting their wellbeing.

The watchdog warned Scotland's 260,000-strong council workforce was blighted by recruitment and retention problems, rising demand and record high sickness rates, and was struggling to keep ‘pace with ever-rising demand'.
