Warwickshire County Council has revealed that a ‘major milestone’ has been reached in its A46 Stoneleigh Junction bridge project following past ‘challenges’.

In a statement last Thursday, the council confirmed that the scheme has seen ‘significant progress’ in recent weeks, with the work having previously been paused due to issues with materials and design.

However, the local authority has said that the bridge’s first four wingwalls have now been built, providing support for the new road and embankments.

It added that the next set of wingwalls are underway, while further concrete construction is set to take place this month, which must be completed prior to the bridge’s structural foundations and road approaches being built.

According to the council, the scheme is intended to boost traffic flow, increase capacity, and promote economic growth within the region.

Cllr Stephen Shaw, Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: ‘Residents rightly want to see progress on this project, and that's exactly what is happening on site. The completion of these first four major support walls marks a significant step forward and shows the new bridge continuing to take shape.’

He added: ‘While the project has faced challenges, our focus remains firmly on delivery. These latest developments demonstrate tangible progress on site and bring us closer to delivering the improvements that residents, businesses and road users have been waiting for.’
