Levels of public trust in the Scottish Government are falling but still remain more than double that of UK Government, according to latest research.
The Scottish Social Attitudes Survey found 59% trusted the Scottish Government to act in Scotland’s best interests compared to 71% in 2011. Just 26% had the same faith in UK Government – up from 18%.
Some 77% thought Scottish Government ‘should make all the decisions for Scotland’ compared to 26% for UK Government.
The gap in terms of trust in who would make ‘fair decisions’ was less marked with 38% backing the Scottish Government and 20% UK Government.
The survey said: ‘The attitudes of people in Scotland towards the Scottish Government were at historically high levels in 2011 following the Scottish election. Since then, attitudes have become less positive in many areas. The results from SSA 2013 suggest this decrease was, in the most part, the result of the “election bounce” effect in 2011.’
