Tributes paid following death of council leader

Staff and councillors are paying their respects to Cllr Colin Law, the leader of Waveney District Council, who passed away over the weekend following a short illness.

Cllr Law, 74, had announced his intention to step down as council leader this week but was due to remain a district councillor until 2019.

Council chief executive Stephen Baker, said: ‘Colin Law was leader of Waveney District Council during a period of considerable improvement, change, achievement and delivery. I'm confident he will be remembered for leading the council through a remarkable period in its history, and I fully expect the tributes to him will recognise that.

‘Colin was a pleasure to work with; a tireless and enthusiastic public servant who had a great working relationship with staff. He respected them and the feeling was absolutely mutual.’

Cllr Law had been leader of the council since 2011, and leaves behind his wife Deanna, two daughters, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
